When your check engine light comes on, it's usually followed by anxiety and worry. The light could be as a result of just a minor issue, like a faulty gas gap, or something really serious like a misfiring engine. In most cases, the sane thing to do when your check engine light comes on is visit your car dealer to fix the problem. What the Light means The check engine light is part of your vehicle's onboard diagnostic system. When it detects a problem in the electronic control system that cannot be corrected, it turns on a yellow warning light labelled 'check engine'. Besides just the check engine light, the system stores a 'trouble code' which identifies the exact source of the problem. The code, however, requires a professional to decipher and repair the issue.
